Boulevard / Toppling Goliath – Crypt Sleeper – whiskey barrel aged imperial stout
We all know the reputation Boulevard has with their barrel aging program, and here they are joined by another heavy hitter in Toppling Goliath. This beer pours a brownish black color with a small foamy dark brown head that dissipates somewhat quickly. The nose is heavy with dark chocolate aromas, accompanied by lighter raisins and dates, underlined by some caramel and whiskey. It has a medium-heavy body with a medium-light carbonation and a moderately smooth mouth feel. You get the same dark chocolate and dark fruits up front on the palate, followed by a lightly spicy rye bread character on the mid-palate. The chocolate and raisin continue into the tail end of the beer along with semi-sweet bourbon notes and a hint of what tastes like nutmeg (although there is none in this beer). The sweetness of the beer lingers on the tongue a little, but it’s not unbearably sweet or overbearing. Grab a pack of these for a stroll through the graveyard, or for any other spooky event you have planned this season. Review by Dan Chacon

Sierra Nevada – Mosaic Little Thing – New England style hazy IPA
Here we are with another rendition of the "Little Thing" line from Sierra Nevada. This one is a Hazy IPA chock-full of Mosaic hops. Nothing "little" about it. The nose is big and juicy, full of berries, pineapple, lime, and tangerine. There is also a slight dankness in there that took me a minute to pinpoint. This beer also has big haze and big head (you see what I'm doing here?) It pours a nice orangish copper with a pretty reactive head. The flavor profile is just as juicy as the nose, with all the fruitiness to match. Big bursts of berries, mango, and tropical fruits take the forefront. A full, fresh, and resinous body transitions into a smooth and full, lingering finish that keeps those flavors around for a while. I haven't had a whole lot of these Little Thing beers from these guys, but this has piqued my interest, and I will be trying more of them in the future. Review by Daniel Trouwborst

Wiley Roots – County Fair Cobbler: Apple Crumble – fruited pastry sour
If you’ve been reading these reviews we do for a while now, you probably know how much I hold this series in regard. This one is probably about mid for me, but that’s still a pretty high praise since I love these beers. It pours a cloudy pale gold color with a medium sized fizzy white head that dissipates quickly. apple, cinnamon, and light graham cracker fill your nose with lighter lemon tart and bread pudding in the background. The body sits at a medium weight with a bright, medium-light carbonation level and a lightly smooth mouth feel, followed by a very slightly dry finish which was surprising. On the palate you get sweet apple and cinnamon up front, followed by bread pudding and that standard lemon tart character on the mid-palate. The apple resurfaces on the tail end along with some light graham crackers. The sweet bread notes carry into the finish briefly before the beer drops off very slightly dry. Review by Dan Chacon

Firestone Walker – Parabolita: Mocha Latte – barrel aged flavored imperial stout
We're getting close to stout season. However, depending on who you ask, stout season can be year-round. I'm definitely a seasonal beer drinker. Summertime, I am all about the lagers and pilsners, and I had a ton of fantastic ones this year. But now the transition starts. I've been wearing flannels and hoodies on my bike rides to and from work, and a nice, strong stout is the perfect way to warm up. Parabolita is a blend of bourbon barrel-aged Parabola and sweet, creamy Velvet Merlin Milk Stout, topped with vanilla beans, cacao nibs, and coffee. The result is something I don't want to end. This beer pours an extremely dark brown, with a thick, dense head that is also tinted brown. The nose is full of vanilla, rich chocolate, bitter coffee, and (almost getting overpowered) bourbon. The flavor profile matches the aroma, but with the booziness from the bourbon barrels pushing through quite a bit. The sweetness of chocolate and vanilla mixed with the bitterness of coffee, and the complexities of bourbon make for an incredibly creamy, sweet, and boozy body that warms me right up and kind of puts me in the mood to sit by a fire during a cold, snowy night. Maybe Firestone Walker pulled the trigger a little early on this one. But maybe it'll still be around when that happens. Either way, this is a sweet, delicious, warming treat in a can that has put me - definitely not a winter guy - into a winter mood. Cheers!Review by Daniel Trouwborst
