Martin House – Gourdius – imperial pastry pumpkin stout

Man, I was excited when I saw this beer come in. Martin House Brewing has taken the Argonaut by storm. From their insane barrel-aged, fruited sours that you've probably seen on our warm shelf in those tall, skinny boxes, to their Best Maid Pickle Beer, these guys make beer with intense, in-your-face flavor. I am lucky enough to be chosen to review their newest seasonal, Gourdius, a pumpkin beer unlike any other. This stout pours almost black, with just a tinge of brownish red. I had to pour the beer fairly hard to get that tiny amount of big-bubbled head on there (it went away pretty much immediately). The nose is packed full of pumpkin, allspice, cinnamon, vanilla, and gingerbread. This beer is brewed with cheesecake flavoring and honestly smells EXACTLY like a pumpkin cheesecake. The body is smooth and creamy with just a bit of carbonation. The flavor doesn't quite hit the same intensity as the aroma, but believe me, there is still plenty here. The pumpkin and cinnamon shine over the allspice (which seems to be tricky with a lot of other pumpkin beers). There's also a really rich, dense cheesecakiness (yes, I did just make up that word) on the backend. With all that flavor and heaviness, the 10% ABV really sneaks up on you. This type of beer works so well, in my opinion, because with all the intense flavors, you need a thick, boozy backbone to balance everything out. This beer is a perfect autumn dessert in a can. Milieu – Festy – German style Festbier lager

Milieu Fermentation in Aurora is a new(ish) brewery on the scene and producing some impressive libations (try also their ‘do dope shit’ IPA), which has me looking forward to their take on one of the most traditional beer styles. Now onto the beer, it pours bright clear gold color with a small light head that fades quickly. The aroma starts with a malty sweetness as well as a light grain and biscuit notes. Matching the light aroma, the flavor is subtle with hints of malt sweetness as well as a light toasted bread and grain character. Put that together with a good, very crisp and refreshing carbonation followed by a dry finish that leaves you wanting another sip, all makes for a great Festbier lager.​Review by Stefan Walberg

Tightknit – Winged Hussar – Polish style imperial pilsner

I'm checking two boxes with this Polish-Style Imperial Pilsner from Tightknit: I do believe this is my first Polish-Style beer and maybe my first Imperial Pilsner? I've had some big pilsners, but none that have called themselves a true "Imperial." This is indeed a big ol' pilsner. This beer pours a really cloudy, golden-copper color with a small yet dense head. The nose has a slight lemon zest in addition to more traditional, bready, biscuity notes. The body has a pretty low carbonation but is full of flavor. This is where the "Imperial" part really shines. There is a very strong and sweet maltiness that is reminiscent of a Hawaiian sweet roll. With those added malts, there is a bit of creaminess in the body that is not typical in most pilsners. The hint of citrus is also there in the flavor and complements the more bready notes really well. Now that I've made my way to the end of this beer, through a temperature increase and oxygenation, I'm getting some notes of ripe banana in there as well. The finish is crisp, but those flavors are really lingering on my palate, possibly because of the uniqueness alone. This is probably one of the most unique pilsners I've ever tried and will definitely make me seek out more Polish and Polish-style beers! Review by Daniel Trouwbors

Westbound & Down – Parallel – West coast style pale ale

A gold medal winner in the 2025 GABF and perhaps my favorite style from a standard in Colorado brewing, count me in. It pours a perfectly clear pale straw color with a slightly larger head than I would expect and a bold pine aroma as well as lighter resinous notes. The flavor matches nearly perfectly, with bright pine notes, crisp carbonation and just a hint of malt sweetness, making it bright, balanced and refreshing. As it warms up you get more of the resinous and dank notes that are present in the aroma, but it keeps a clean crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a big flavored and bright pale with a lot of layers that maintains a crisp and refreshing character. And there is no question why it earned the medal and the hype.​Review by Stefan Walberg
