Great Divide – Tropical Titan – fruited American IPA

Titan IPA has been a longtime staple, as well as a crowd favorite, in the Great Divide core lineup. I honestly never thought we’d see any variations of it because of these facts, but I for one welcome it! This adaptation is brewed with mango and guava, and it does not disappoint. It pours a slightly cloudy, golden-yellow color with a medium sized, foamy white head that leaves a light lacing on the glass. The nose is very fruit forward with aromas of mango, guava, and light pineapple backed by hints of citrusy hops and grainy malts. The body sits at a medium weight with a bright, medium-light carbonation level. The palate is fruity as well, but less so than the nose, and still carries the Titan characteristics we’ve grown to love. Notes of mango and guava hit your tongue up front followed by moderately bitter, citrusy hops, with a light earthiness, and grainy malts on the mid-palate. The mango resurfaces on the tail end accompanied by some stone fruit and light pine, before a delayed mildly dry finish. Review by Dan Chacon

Avery – Tweak – barrel aged imperial coffee stout

I am honestly so excited to get to drink and review this beer! One of the legendary "gold foil" beers from Avery, Tweak, is one of the first I've seen back in the world in a long time. I do slightly regret drinking this beer so late given its robust amount of coffee that really comes through in the flavor and aroma. This beer is incredible. Pouring an extremely dark brown, the head is tame with a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is heavy with toffee and bitter dark chocolate flavors. The body is thick and heavy, with flavors you wouldn't believe. It's toffee, caramel, vanilla, coffee, (bitter) dark chocolate, and a little bit of cherry. There is some booziness here as well (14.4% abv, fml), though it balances well with all the potent flavors. This beer is incredible. It is a hefty, strong, in-your-face, not your everyday drinker, special bourbon-barrel aged coffee stout that should, and probably will, knock your socks off. Also, did I mention this beer is incredible? Get it while you can! I'm not sure how long we'll have it. Also, be on the lookout for more of the Gold Foil beers from Avery. I'm hoping this is the start of them bringing back all the classics! Review by Daniel Trouwborst

Ommegang – Oak Aged Watermelon Kolsch – oak aged & fruited Kolsch

Ommegang has built their reputation by brewing high quality, Belgian inspired beers. But they have since expanded their portfolio by brewing a plethora of creative and experimental beers which have shown the ability and diversity of their brewers’ skills. This beer is a German style Kolsch brewed with watermelon and then aged on agave-soaked oak chips. It pours an opaque pinkish-red color with a small, fizzy, light pink hued head. On the nose you get aromas of agave, oak, watermelon, and lime backed by hints of lager like esters. The body is medium light with a bright, medium level carbonation which really helps the flavors “pop”. The palate is a bit more balanced with notes of semi-sweet, agave soaked oak up front, followed by slightly bitter, grainy malts and your typical Kolsch character on the mid-palate, while the watermelon and lime flavors surface on the finish with the lime lingering just a little bit. This beer is fairly complex while still managing to be crisp and refreshing. Review by Dan Chacon

Milieu / Ladt Justice – American Ninja Keyboard Warrior – double hazy IPA

First off, this beer is in the running for the best name in my opinion. Featuring a fun cartoony hand karate chopping a keyboard into pieces. The can design is on point as well. This is a collaboration between Milieu out of Aurora and Lady Justice from Englewood. At first, this beer appeared to be a deep gold color with some haze, but I could still see my fingers on the other side of the glass. Upon second pour (I broke my regular, big glass that allowed me to fit an entire 16oz beer in it, so I'm stuck using my Spangalang glass for the time being), the unfiltered sediment really came through and turned it a much paler yellow with haze so thick I can't even see the shadow of my fingers through the glass. The nose is full of tropical fruit notes such as pineapple, mango, and ripe orange. There is a nice, thick body that is slightly sweet and packed with all those tropical notes, plus a subtle, soft, pillowy character that makes these intense flavors surprisingly balanced and approachable even though this is a Double IPA. This might be a crazy statement, but this beer honestly rivals any Outer Range IPA that I've had. This is an extremely modern take on Hazy IPAs, bursting with flavor and body. Both of these local breweries kill it, and I can't wait to try more from both of them! Review by Daniel Trouwborst
