Martin House – A La Mode – fruited & flavored imperial cream ale

All of the cream ales that Martin House has been brewing are some of my favorites of theirs, and really overall in beer in general. This one is brewed with honey and passion fruit, which at first I thought might be a weird combo, but they made it work great. It pours a murky orange hued bronze color with a small, fizzy, light bronze head which dissipates pretty quickly. Bold aromas of sweet honey hit your nose up front, backed by semi-tart passion fruit, hints of caramel and sweet cream, with and underlying bready malt base. The body is medium-heavy with a medium-light carbonation level, and a silky mouth feel due to this ratio as well as the addition of honey. A nice blend of honey, caramel, and sweet cream flavors cover your tongue first, followed by bready, and just a touch bitter, malts on the mid-palate. Light notes of passion fruit surface towards the tail end and linger just a bit into the finish where the honey creeps back in as well. This is definitely a beer on the sweeter side, but if that is your thing, it’s one that you should enjoy! Review by Dan Chacon

Milieu – Be Dope: Peacharine – New England style hazy IPA

Another day, another really good IPA from Milieu. I may have mentioned in my previous review of the American Ninja Keyboard Warrior that I had never even heard of Milieu until Dan, our beer buyer, brought them in earlier this year. The Beer Wizard and I tried a stout from them during one of our episodes of Turbo and the Wiz that was infected (it happens), which left a literal sour taste in my mouth. Since then, I've had a handful of different beers from them that have been fantastic, and it's made me realize that these guys are for real. This beer is a variation of what seems to be their flagship IPA, Be Dope. This is a double dry-hopped hazy IPA that bursts with tangerine, peach, melon, and citrus aromas. The color is bright, pale yellow, thick and cloudy (just how I like it). The body is slightly sweet, stickier and more piney than expected. The fruity flavors are more subdued than the nose would lead you to expect. There is a decent amount of tangerine with very slight peach and misc. citrus, but there is a piney, danky bitterness that also cuts through and balances everything out. The finish is pretty dry and leaves me wanting more, which made me finish this beer a lot quicker than I planned. Like I said, these guys are for real. I'm excited to try more of their beers and probably visit their brewery out in Aurora very soon! Review by Daniel Trouwborst

Prairie Ales – Beach Drink – fruited & flavored imperial kettle sour

This beast of a sour clocks in at 8% but if you didn't know it you probably wouldn't guess it. This fruited sour pours a somewhat mundane straw color with little to no head, but from the outset you can smell the tangerine and tropical fruit. The flavor matches with a big fruit body of orange and pineapple that lead into a creamy milk sugar smoothie, which isn’t too tart, just easy drinking and very crushable. Review by Stefan Walberg

Outer Range – DDH Aerials – double dry hopped west coast style IPA

I’m usually more a fan of the hazy IPAs, and Outer Range is certainly more known for them, but this DDH version of their flagship west coast IPA demonstrates their ability to brew this style on an outstanding level as well. It pours a light orangish-yellow color with a large, dense and foamy, white head which leaves a light lacing on the glass. Dank and skunky hops aromas fill your nose initially along with some lemon, grainy malts, and lighter pine. The body and carbonation both sit at a medium light level, and the beer finishes moderately dry. The palate mirrors the nose with the addition of some orange notes before tapering off into that moderately bitter and dry finish. Review by Dan Chacon

4 Noses / The Real Dill – Cucumber Margarita – flavored Berliner Weisse

Let me start by saying, I am an absolute sucker for anything cucumber. I'm almost guaranteed to love this beer. Somehow, even with those expectations, this beer still blew me away and shot way up on my favorite beers of the year list. 4 Noses collaborated with The Real Dill yet again after crushing it with their Michelada. This is a Berliner Weisse that pours a cloudy, bright gold color. The nose is a nice and light fruity concoction, with cucumber and lime really taking the forefront. The body is full of cucumber, lime, and orange, with a pretty hefty dose of sea salt as well, which really helps give it that "Margarita" character. (This is the point in the review that I finished the beer because it was so good, I couldn't put it down.) Slightly puckery, yet the sourness is not overwhelming in any way. I, personally, am not a huge fan of overly sour beers, so this is right up my alley. It has a very refreshing finish, making this a perfect summer slammer at a very reasonable 4.5% abv. Weldwerks – West Mode – West Coast style IPA

This West Coast IPA by our friends at Weldwerks pours a clear light amber color with a relatively fine head that is bursting with aromatics! Grapefruit and pine dominate with a hint of lemon at the finish. The flavor is in line with that. A very bright citrus opening that leads into a piney and resinous hop character, supported by light but present malt backbone that lends a nice balancing sweetness. Overall, this is a very well balanced, hop forward West Coast. Very traditional of the style and full flavor without being too heavy. Review by Stefan Walberg
