Toppling Goliath / Hop Butcher – Mind Your Unwind – hazy double IPA

We’ve got another powerhouse collaboration for you all this week in the form of this outstanding double IPA! It pours an opaque burnt orange color with a large, dense and foamy, white head that leaves a moderate amount of lacing on the glass. Bold citrusy orange aromas permeate from the glass upon pouring and are dominant when you nose the beer. Lightly dank hops, grainy malts, and hints of pineapple also fill your nose when taking in the aromas. The beer has a medium-heavy body with a medium level of carbonation and a slightly smooth mouth feel. Flavors of sweet orange and honey dew melon hit your tongue up front, followed by dank and moderately bitter hops on the mid-palate. The bitterness carries into the finish where it is joined by more honey dew and hints of sweet pineapple. Review by Dan Chacon

New Image – Key Lime Sour – fruited and flavored kettle sour

This fruit sour by New Image pours a very slightly hazy gold color with a lively and somewhat large head. The beer immediately gives off a strong lime aroma as well some more gentle lactic notes of cream or milk. The palate is incredibly refreshing with a bold tart lime flavor that perfectly pushes the bounds of being too sour without going overboard. It is balanced well with just a hint of a cream finish that impressively resembles its namesake. Overall, this is a very refreshing sour that is surprisingly crushable. Review by Stefan Walberg

Weldwerks – Summer S’mores Stout – flavored milk stout

S’mores are great for camping or other outdoor activities! So, why not try a Summer S’mores Stout? This beer pours a very dark brown, almost black, color with a large, foamy, mocha colored head that leaves a light lacing in the glass. Rich aromas of chocolate, caramel, and graham cracker fill your nose, backed by lighter marshmallow and dark bready malts. The body and carbonation both sit at a medium level, and it has a lightly silky mouth feel. The palate is surprisingly not as sweet as the nose leads on. Notes of chocolate and graham cracker come through first, followed by slightly bitter, dark bready malts on the mid palate. The marshmallow comes through more pronounced on the tail end of the beer and the bitterness continues here, taking on more of a coffee like character. Review by Dan Chacon

Knotted Root – Krush – New England style pale ale

During the pour, this is a very hazy light straw color with a light head that is loose and fades quickly. From the outset the aroma gives pine resin, some small citrus notes, and just a hint of some terpenes at the end. The flavor follows suit with strong hop characteristics in the vein of pine needles and resin, with an earthy flavor throughout. Overall, this is a light to medium bodied IPA with very raw hop flavors. Review by Stefan Walberg

Revolution Brewing – Freedom Lemonade – fruited session kettle sour

Some of you may not be familiar with Revolution Brewing, since they do not have full-time distribution here. But they are a fantastic brewery out of Chicago Illinois! This particular beer from them pours a cloudy, yellow-gold color with a large, dense and foamy, white head. Sweet, yet tart, lemonade aromas dominate the nose, backed by lemon zest and very bready malts. The body of this beer is surprisingly heavier than you would expect, sitting at a medium weight, with a medium-light carbonation level. The palate mirrors the nose exactly with this beer. The tart level is moderate, and a sweeter lemon character follows into the finish. This is a very refreshing and flavorful sour ale! Review by Dan Chacon

Founders – Mortal Bloom – New England style IPA

This year round offering from Founders pours a hazy straw color, with very little head. The aroma is bright with a light hoppy character that then fades into tropical fruit and some herbaceous characteristics. The flavor is very hop driven and opens with a surprisingly bright note of citrus as well as tropical fruits, mango, and pineapple, which then leads to a unique and refreshing finish that is reminiscent of daisies. This IPA is a little off the beaten path but well worth the journey. Review by Stefan Walberg
